Roles in TIP$ the Musical
In order of appearance:
LAUREN A generally vivacious twenty-something college student who works at Café 24/Sometimes, LAUREN is in a terrible mood today, having been called in on her day off to cover for a sick coworker; leaning towards the dramatic and often oblivious, she is sick of her job and longs for something different; MEZZO
JAKE A young biologist who travels and does research through the local university, JAKE got a job at the Kiosk to branch out socially – which is to say, because he thinks the LAUREN is amazing and is trying to get up the nerve to talk with her. He took this shift on his day off because he heard LAUREN was working; TENOR
ROB A smart ass cook with a chip on his shoulder, ROB has been working at fuBar for a while now. In a tempestuous long-term relationship with JENNY, ROB is trying to decide what he wants to do about their future – or if they should even have one; BARITONE
JENNY A take-no-shit waitress at fuBar who knows how to fill out a shirt, JENNY usually enjoys fighting with long-term lover ROB, but he’s been acting more and more annoyed lately, and today has her wondering what she’s waiting around for – and if it’s really worth it; SOPRANO
KIM Owner and bartender of fuBar, KIM is brilliant at managing chaos – and good thing too with all the crazy personalities she has to wrangle. But today the relatively simple task of adding a new employee just keeps getting more and more challenging. As friendships are tested and tempers are strained, it’s up to KIM to make sure that everything works out the way it should before she can say, “Last Call;” ALTO
PACO/POET/CHERYL As PACO, this is the stereotypical Spanish-speaker in the kitchen – or is he? As POET, the “poetry is my mistress” type who lords over his subjects; and as CHERYL, the uncaring boss who’s not going to do anything about it – no falsetto required
KYLE A self-assured English major who dreams of something more, KYLE is starting his first real job and his first day at fuBar. Sure, some of the the kitchen staff seem to hate him and the amount of drama in the kitchen is rivaled only by the café, but it’s just another easy step on the road to success – right?
