About

The Heritage Theatre Group was incorporated in 1991 by Don Rice and Keith Oberfeld in order to present classic plays and plays with classic themes. Such productions were and are largely absent from the offerings of mainstream community theatre companies in the Grand Rapids area. In the years since, we have staged ninety productions, with offerings from Shakespeare, Molière, Shaw, Wilde, Chekhov, Miller, Williams, and many others. Our productions have won several local theater awards, including Best Lead Actor and Outstanding Ensemble in 2006 for Devour the Snow and Metamorphoses, respectively, and Best Supporting Actress for Agnes of God in 2008. Our recent Grand Awards nominations include Outstanding Direction of a Play (Rachel Finan, Fool for Love), Outstanding Lead Actress in a Play (Brooke Bruce, May in Fool for Love), and Outstanding Play (Fool for Love).

HTG is managed by a volunteer board of directors with support from volunteer artistic and managing directors. HTG does not maintain any paid staff, relying on board members and other community volunteers for its day to day operations and procuring technical and artistic support for its productions on a contract basis.
